Our Story

PuppetPress has a rich history that dates back to the 1950s when it was founded by Tommy Thompson and his wife, Hazel Thompson. Initially, the press was set up as a way for the couple to experiment with print media and small book design and production. Using two hand printing presses, Tommy and Hazel created numerous small books that were often given as gifts to friends and fellow collectors.

From Hand Printing to Digital Publishing

Over the years, the Puppet Press evolved to keep pace with technological advancements. In the late 1970s, Hazel continued to operate the press after Tommy's passing in 1968. With the advent of personal computers and desktop publishing, the hand presses became obsolete. This marked the beginning of a new era for the Puppet Press, where the focus shifted from traditional print-on-demand to digital publishing.

Today, PuppetPress offers a platform for authors to share their work with a global audience. With the rise of Amazon and the digital age, we believe that the cost of entry for a writer should be low and the returns reasonable.
